Granite
Granite countertops are one of the best upgrades to beautify your kitchen or bath. Granite has deep beautiful colors that cannot be matched by any other type of countertop material, and add warmth, character, and value to your room. Granite is as durable as it is functional and beautiful. Granite is a structural and ornamental stone. Due to its high compressive strength and durability, it is used for numerous applications. Granite is the hardest of structural stones. Its mineral-rich colors, hardness and density make it an ideal choice for countertops, vanities, and flooring. A broad range of elegant patterns and colors makes granite the most versatile and durable of all stones available. With proper care, its beauty can last a lifetime.
Quartz
Quartz is the second most abundant mineral in the Earth’s crust. There are many different varieties of Quartz, several of which are gemstones. Other uses include countertops, vanities, and flooring. Some varieties of Quartz Counter Tops are manufactured through a blending and mixing process, where the quartz is ground and mixed with a binder and then put through a molding process. In the molding process, the material is compacted into slabs by a special vacuum and vibration process while under 100 tons of pressure. These compacted slabs are then heat treated to give them their stone properties. Manufactured Quartz Countertops can offer greater resistance to stains and impacts.
Marble & Onyx
Marble has been valued for thousands of years for its rich palette of beautiful colors and appearance. Marble is a softer stone than granite. Marble (and limestone) are calcium carbonate, the polished surface is more vulnerable to household acids including vinegar, mustard, ketchup, citrus and a host of other food-related products. These acidic substances cause a chemical reaction that will remove the polish from the Marble. Take these tips into consideration when choosing a stone that is right for your project.
Limestones
The muted tones of limestone are perfect for today’s more casual and comfortable lifestyles. Generally, these soft beiges and tans, either polished or honed, are appropriate for bathrooms, fireplaces, countertops and less traveled flooring.
Travertines
The Coliseum in Rome, having stood for over 2000 years, is perhaps the most famous travertine structure in the world. Travertine is commonly used outside as cladding and pavement, as well as inside for floors, walls, and countertops. Travertine is generally filled with cement before it is honed or polished, which produces a uniform surface more like other marbles.
